In cooperation with the think tank Digitale Arbeitsgesellschaft of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, a first holistic model for describing and predicting AI literacy was published.

The project AIL AT WORK celebrated its official kick-off with the think tank Digitale Arbeitsgesellschaft of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

Out of more than 2,300 applications, Erik Wolf from the HCI and PIIS Group was selected as one of 37 outstanding PhD students to be funded within the 2022 Meta PhD Research Fellowship program. This prestigious achievement was granted to only six participants from outside the US and once again puts the Würzburg AR/VR research into the neighbourship of elite research facilities like Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, or ETH. Congratulations to Erik Wolf for this outstanding achievement!

The XR Hub hosted an event for the WueWW on Friday, the 22nd of October 2021 to give an insight into the world of extended reality and to showcase fields of application of XR. The XR Hub Würzburg introduced five areas of application of XR: therapy and health, education and training, co-working and creativity, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and fundamental research and knowledge transfer.

At Demo Day, exciting student projects from the nine Bavarian bidt innovation labs were presented. The event also marks the end of the current funding round. In addition to the presentation of the labs and their projects, participants expected an award ceremony in the categories of Play & Leisure, Education & Workplace, DigitalHealth, Data Science, and Sustainability.

The Places_ VR Festival took place from 16th to 18th of September in Gelsenkirchen.

The Places _ Virtual Reality Festival is Germany's first, largest, freely accessible, and free festival for virtual reality. In 2021, the festival already entered its third round. The Places _ VR Festival is aimed equally at a professional audience, but especially at a broad public audience, and has been held in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf since 2018. Places is a meeting place for the German and European XR industry as well as a contact point for many people interested in VR.

Carolin Wienrich und Marc Latoschik beschreiben wie die Idee des „Digital Twin“ auf neue Interaktionen zwischen Menschen und Formen der Künstlichen Intelligenz übertragen werden kann. Der neue menschzentrierte Ansatz namens „eXtended AI“ bietet vielfältige Möglichkeiten Mensch-KI-Interaktionen systematisch und valide untersuchbar zu machen.

Im Workshop wurden neue Kompetenzdimensionen sowie metakognitive Fähigkeiten identifiziert, die für eine menschzentrierte Entwicklung, Gestaltung, Etablierung und Interaktion von KI-basierten Technologien im Feld der Arbeit wichtig sind.

The 2021 Winter EXPO for MCS/HCI was a great success! This semester, two of the three awards received students supervised by the MTS group. We thank all contributors and guests for attending online. Students of Human-Computer Interaction B.Sc. and Human-Computer Interaction M.Sc. presented their projects.

Carolin Wienrich (Mensch-Technik-Systeme) hat mit Astrid Carolus (Medienpsychologie) und Andreas Hotho (Data Science) das mit 760.000 Euro vom bidt geförderte Forschungsprojekt „MOTIV - Digital Interaction Literacy ” eingeworben.

Together with Bavarian Minister of State Judith Gerlach the XR Hub gave a masterclass called "Dive into XR – use cases and outlook" at Bits&Pretzels 2020.

In an Interview with ARD Alpha, Carolin Wienrich elaborated on the areas of application and possibilites of XR technologies.

During her visit to the XR Hub at the University of Würzburg, Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach was amazed at the possibilities offered by VR.

The Faculty for Human Sciences awarded Carolin Wienrich the Research Prize 2020 on 22.07.2020 in recognition of her achievements in science. The prize also includes an earmarked prize money of 1000€.
