‘Crisis Communication’ – Guest lecture by Dr Benedikt Spangardt
06/22/2026Insights into the practice of strategic communication in a crisis. A guest lecture by Dr Benedikt Spangardt, Head of Communications and Press Spokesperson at the Havariekommando, on 25 June 2026 from 2.00 pm.
Crises strike unexpectedly and are almost impossible to predict. And by the time you realise they’re happening, it’s too late to give much thought to effective communication. So how can you prepare? Why is it important to communicate strategically during a crisis – and how do you go about it? What particular challenges do communications managers face? These are some of the questions Benedikt Spangardt aims to answer in his guest lecture on ‘Crisis Communication’. Crises are his profession: Spangardt heads the Communications Unit at the Havariekommando. The Havariekommando is a joint body of the federal government and the coastal states; it is responsible for emergency management in the event of serious shipping accidents and environmental disasters along the German coast.
On 25 June, at the invitation of the Media and Business Communication Department, Benedikt Spangardt will give his lecture as part of the ‘Advertising and Public Relations’ course. The lecture will take place from 2.15 pm to 3.45 pm.
The lecture is funded by study grants.
