Standards of film music design using the example of a car chase - Guest lecture by Prof. Dr Peter Moormann

Every day, composers are confronted with the task of finding adequate musical solutions for a wide variety of situations in film within a short space of time. Despite the diversity of ideas, it can be observed that they always fall back on certain musical patterns. Using the example of car chases, such compositional topoi will be traced along various genres. The focus will be on the question of the extent to which the narrative mode of the respective genre influences the musical composition of this standard situation. Using numerous examples, the traditions of such film music topoi and their compositional transformations will be examined.

Peter Moormann has been invited by the Department of Media and Business Communication to give a lecture in the course "Entertainment & Music" (Master's programme Media Entertainment) on 8 July 2025. The lecture is financed by study grants.
