From audio designers to cult band
06/01/2026Music creates atmosphere, emotion and excitement - especially in video games. But how is the sound of a successful game created? And how does a development team suddenly become a band with its own fan base? // Guest lecture on 1 June 2026, 1:30 pm
As part of the Entertainment & Music seminar, we welcome Jonas Mondello, Supervising Audio Designer, and Dominik Zingler, Lead Audio Designer, from Crytek, Germany's leading game developer based in Frankfurt am Main. The two will provide exciting insights into the world of music and sound design using the internationally successful video game Hunt: Showdown as an example.
They will give a first-hand account of the role that music and sound play in the atmosphere and gaming experience of a modern video game, how creative audio concepts are developed and the challenges that come with working as an audio designer in the games industry.
Mondello and Zingler also tell the extraordinary story of how their work on the game gave rise to an independent band. Today, their music not only inspires the Hunt: Showdown community, but also numerous listeners far beyond the boundaries of the game.
The guest lecture offers rare insights into the interface of music production, sound design and games entertainment and is aimed at all students interested in media, music and digital entertainment.
Jonas Mondello and Dominik Zingler are coming to Würzburg at the invitation of the Department of Media and Business Communication. The lecture will take place as part of Dr Nicolas Ruth's Entertainment & Music seminar.
The lecture is financed by study grants.
